Day trip to Braga and Guimarães

8 hours

Easy

You will explore two of the most ancient cities in Portugal: The cradle-town of Guimarães; and Braga, the city of bishops. The ideal day trip if you're wondering what to do after having visited Porto.
Whether it's your first foray into Portugal or you've already experienced the most famous cities in the country, these two cities will delight you with their history, beauty and charm. The tour will start in Porto, where you will meet your guide and the driver. The drive to the first city should take just short of an hour, during which you will learn a bit about the cities you will be visiting. Guimarães is where it all began, "the cradle of the nation" as we call it. As such, this is the best place to tell you about our country, its tumultuous origin story and the many deeds of the Portuguese people. From the nearly thousand year-old castle to the gorgeous eighteenth-century squares, this city has something for everyone. This is also where you will have lunch: a typical meal just like the ones that Portuguese families have in their own homes. This meal can accommodate for most dietary restrictions. After lunch, the tour will take you to Braga. Portugal has historically been a very catholic country, therefore the City of Bishops is bound to be impressive. The architecture of the many churches that dot the landscape dates back to several different historical periods, giving it an enrapturing beauty. The fondness of the Church for egg-based pastries has also been preserved, and there are many unique treats to try in Braga. After both of these cities, the driver will pick you up and drive you back to Porto, thus concluding this beautiful day.
