This is a true odyssey trough the vineyards inside a vintage 4wd Land Rover Defender

Port wine is certainly the best-known Portuguese wine in the world, however, Portuguese wine is not limited to port wine. Portugal has 14 demarcated wine regions and different types of wines, wines that can only be produced in Portugal, such as Port wine but also Vinho Verde “green wine”.

Vinho Verde is a much lighter wine due to the humid clime of the region which adds a natural fizziness to the wine. The Vinho Verde is produced in the northwest part of Portugal, i.e. the whole region from Porto to Northern Spain making this region the biggest wine region in Portugal with around 34,000 hectares.

In addition to vinho verde, this is certainly the region with the most history in Portugal, mainly with the passage of the Romans through the Iberian Peninsula, and it was right in the center of this wine region, in the city of Guimarães", where the first king of Portugal, Dom Afonso Henriques, was born and from where he started the conquest of Portugal.

For this tour, we want you to learn and taste not only the vinhos verdes, but also the incredible history of this region which is extremely connected with the beginning of Portugal.

The day will start at Porto city center with the pick-up and then we will proceed on the highway to the city of Amarante, a historic city in Portugal, mainly because it served as a blockade in the invasion of Napoleonic troops in Portugal and also considered by many as the capital of the Vinho Verde region.

After the quick stop at Amarante, we will drive through the local vineyards to our first winery to learn about the history of this wine and also have a tasting paired with local products.

For lunch, we will visit a second local winery where we will have a typical Portuguese lunch accompanied by several green wines and have a look around the vineyards

Arrival in Porto will be around 17:30
